Description:
AquaTT is a not for profit company set up in 1992 to support the development of a sustainable Marine sector. AquaTT’s mission is to bridge the knowledge gap between the dynamic R&D environments and the progressive commercial sector to help create sustainable European solutions to societal challenges.
The Europe 2020 Flagship Initiative Innovation Union (COM (2010) 546 final) specifies that “Genuinely open innovation requires brokerage, intermediaries and networks in which all players can participate on an equal basis…” For more than 18 years, AquaTT has been a key partner in EC-financed projects. In research projects AquaTT aspires to work with research leaders who can generate new knowledge and convert it into practical solutions to help sustain Europe into the future. In parallel to our work supporting research, AquaTT has a long track record in the field of education, training and lifelong learning, informing strategies, development new methods and creating networks to exchange best practice. AquaTT has been managing the Socrates Erasmus Academic network, Aqua-tnet since 1996 covering the topics of Aquaculture, Fisheries and Aquatic Resource management and currently has over 70 higher education institutes and over 40 stakeholder representatives.

Description: 
The Marine Institute (Forasna Mara)is the state agency responsible for marine research, development and innovation in Ireland. The Marine Institute, headquartered in Oranmore, County Galway provides a range of services to government, industry, the third level sector and the public. The Institute operates the National Research Vessels and provides data and information services to support industry development and underpin the work of a range of government departments, state agencies and local authorities.
The Institute also provides policy and scientific advice on all aspects of the marine resource, undertakes research, stimulates development, and administers the national competitive research programme linked to the implementation of Sea Change - the National Marine Research, Knowledge and Innovation Strategy 2007-2013. This strategy seeks to strengthen the competitiveness and environmental sustainability of Ireland’s marine sector by developing greater alignment between the needs of industry and the research capacity of the public sector and the third level.
The Strategy aims to build multidisciplinary research capacity and capability that can be applied to marinerelated activities, leading to the acquisition of new technical skills, improved flow of expert personnel between the research community and industry and the creation of new commercial opportunities. Change also delivers a comprehensive planned policy support research measure to apply the knowledge gained from research and monitoring to inform public policy, governance and regulation.

We have interdisciplinary research activity across the Colleges of Commerce, Law, Arts and Medicine, as well as an academic structure within the University that facilities collaboration between research departments. We are committed to improving our understanding of innovation and social entrepreneurial strategies. Our researchers examine economic innovation and social change and different academic disciplines in the social sciences to explore issues of innovation, social inclusion, balanced development and health.
